RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF News) – A first-grader in Richardson brought a loaded gun to school, and didn’t know it.
In a letter sent to parents of students at Hamilton Park Elementary School Monday, Principal Michael Thomas said a staff member found the gun in the student’s backpack while reviewing homework that morning.
Staff members took the gun from the girl and told district resource officers and police.
School officials believe the gun was put in the girl’s backpack by a family member over the weekend who forgot about it.
Thomas said the school is confident the student did not intend to use the weapon to harm anyone.
It’s unclear if the student’s parents will face charges.
