Fort Worth Man Fined For Collecting Millions in a Scam

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News)  Investors all over the nation have been scammed for years by a Fort Worth man, according to a federal agency. The Securities and Exchange Commission says Cody Winters lied to investors about the amount of production from his company’s oil and gas wells. SEC says the scheme ran for 4 years and that the investors were told they would be general partners but were actually signed into agreements that gave them no rights to input or information about operations. Winters and Southlake Resources Vice President Nicholas Hamilton agreed to pay back more than $5M and nearly a quarter million in fines.
