DALLAS (AP) – With Halloween approaching, young children with autism spectrum disorder attending a class at a Dallas center have spent the week getting comfortable with the concept of trick-or-treating.
After spending three days practicing trick-or-treating with the help of visual prompts, the children ages 2 1/2 to 5 on Thursday dressed up in costumes and trick-or-treated at The University of Texas at Dallas’ Callier Center for Communication Disorders.
In the center’s preschool class for children with autism spectrum disorder, students practice social and other skills to better manage everyday situations.
The center helps children and adults with a wide variety of speech, language and hearing disorders.
