DES MOINES, IA (WBAP / KLIF News) — Two police officers in a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa have been shot and killed in what police are calling an ambush attack.
It happened overnight around 1:00 AM, when an officer responded to a shots-fired call. Police say he was shot while sitting alone in his patrol car.
The second officer was found shot and killed at an Urbandale intersection, also alone in his squad car according to police.
“There’s clearly danger if you’re a police officer,” officer Paul Parizek said. “These guys were gunned down sitting in their car doing nothing wrong. There’s definitely danger out there. There’s somebody out there shooting police officers. We hope we find him before anybody else gets hurt.”
State police are searching for the shooter but have not released details on the suspect. Another update is expected later this morning.
