ODDITY: Cubs, Crimson Tide, Redskins Pointing Toward Clinton victory

I Voted 11DALLAS (WBAP & KLIF News) — Three trends in the world of sports that have been mostly accurate in predicting the election results for decades are all forecasting a Hillary Clinton victory on Election Day.

Alabama beating LSU this weekend and the Chicago Cubs winning Game 7 of the World Series last week both follow election year trends. The World Series trend, which involves the National League team winning Game 7, dates back to 1924. The series has gone to Game 7 eight times in an election year since then, and when the National League team wins, a Democrat has won the election. When the American League team wins, a Republican has entered the Oval Office.

The Cubs, a National League team, won Game 7 last week.

Since 1984, the winner of the Alabama/LSU game has also accurately predicted the election results each year, with a Republican entering office years LSU wins and a Democrat winning whenever Alabama prevails. Alabama won 10-0 last weekend.

There’s also the Redskin rule. When the Washington Redskins win their last home game just before a presidential election, the incumbent party wins the election, but if Washington loses that home game, the challenging party takes over.

The Redskins won their last home game 27-20 over Philadelphia — a third superstition pointing toward a Clinton victory. However, this trend has been accurate 19-of-20 times and isn’t unblemished, with the streak being broken in 2012 when President Barack Obama won re-election despite Washington losing the home game prior to the election.

All that said, what matters in the end are the poll results.
