Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – A hodgepodge of anti-Trump, anti-conservative groups rallied at Dealey Plaza tonight to protest the election of Donald Trump.
Daniel Cates said he wasn’t there representing any one group, but to express his fear of what he thinks Trump will do.
“I am out here because I’m a gay man, because I’m HIV positive, because I’m engaged to be married,” said Cates. “And when I woke up on Wednesday morning, I was sick to my stomach, I didn’t want to get out of bed.”
About 500 people gathered on the grassy knoll, carrying signs supporting LGBT, pro-abortion, pro-illegal immigration, and a variety of other causes. Some waved flags; the Mexican flag, a Communist flag, and an upside-down American flag. They cheered and waved to drivers on Elm Street who honked in support of the protesters. Those drivers who yelled their support for Trump, got obscene and profane shouts back.
After about an hour, the protesters became marchers, headed off into the heart of downtown.
The event wrapped up about 10:30; another anti-Trump protest is planned for Friday night.
