FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – A North Texas jury has found a caretaker guilty in the 2013 death of a mentally disabled man who was left for hours in a hot SUV.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that 56-year-old Debra King was convicted Thursday of criminally negligent homicide and injury to a disabled person.
King cared for 29-year-old Terrance Sanders at an Arlington group home. She had driven Sanders and two other disabled men to an adult day care in July 2013 and took the two others inside.
She told investigators that fatigue caused her to forget Sanders and leave him in the SUV upon her return to the group home. Sanders was severely disabled with no verbal ability.
A judge will determine King’s sentence once a pre-sentencing report is completed in about two months.
