DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) There are new plans to make Dallas the home of one of the nation’s largest urban parks. Several projects backed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and private groups are coming together into one to create a more than 15-square-mile park. The space, planned in the Trinity River corridor, would be about 12 times the size of New York’s Central Park. The jewel of the proposal is expected to be the 1,000-acre forest which is on land that once was given to Davy Crockett’s widow, Elizabeth, in recognition of his sacrifice at the Alamo. A system of recreational areas and a nature preserve will also be part of the park. No word yet on a timeline for plans.
