Killeen (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Christmas poster that was ordered to be taken down from a Killeen middle school door earlier this week is back up.
A judge struck down the Killeen ISD’s 6-1 vote earlier this week. Texas Values attorney Jonathan Saenz says Dedre Shannon’s poster went back up on her office door this morning, the last day of class before going on break for two weeks.
Shannon is a nurse’s aide at Patterson Middle School.
Saenz said they tried to work with the District, but even in the face of overwhelming public support, they wouldn’t allow the poster to be displayed.
“We tried everything we could to work with the school district, and they wouldn’t budge on this issue,” said Saenz. “So we had no choice but to go to Court. So we filed a lawsuit, had a hearing, the judge ruled in our favor, and Dedre Shannon put her poster back on her door.”
He doesn’t expect any opposition from groups like the ACLU or the Freedom From Religion Foundation, because he says state law is on their side.
The poster featured a religious quote by the character Linus from “a Charlie Brown Christmas”.
