(WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Attorney General says the decision to lift Obama-era transgender bathroom guidelines is encouraging.
Ken Paxton, in a statement, says the action taken by the Trump Administration is something his office is evaluating. They are looking at the impact it might have on ongoing litigation.
The Trump Administration lifted federal guidelines that said transgender students should be allowed to use public school bathrooms and locker rooms matching their chosen gender identity.
It will now be up to states and school districts to interpret whether federal sex discrimination law applies to gender identity.
Paxton says the original directive unlawfully invaded areas that are left to state discretion under the 10th Amendment.
