DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Association, after pulling its endorsement of one Dallas City Councilman, has endorsed his opponent in the upcoming city elections.
Councilman Lee Kleinman though is not upset over the decision. He says he is comfortable moving forward.
“This is not the police department,” Kleinman said. “People need to understand the distinction between our police department and our command staff and officers that serve our city so well, and the unions whose interest is only lining their own pockets.”
The Dallas Police Association says for the sake of public safety, this is one of this year’s most important races for Dallas City Council.
The DPA says Kleinman opponent Candy Evans has shown a willingness to work with officers on a daily basis and will make sure they have the tools and training necessary.
Kleinman says he received the endorsement of former Dallas Police Chief David Brown in December.
The Dallas Police Association publicly called for Kleinman to remove its previous endorsement weeks ago from his website which he did.
