(WBAP/KLIF News) Today is the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere, which kicks off the first of two equinoxes we have each year. Dr. Nicki Viall with NASA, explains the day is a special time because it’s one of only two days each year (fall equinox and spring equinox) that contains days that are as long as the nights. The earth’s tilt on its axis is what keeps the days and nights uneven the rest of the year: longer days in the summer when the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun, and shorter in the winter when it’s tilted away. Equinox is latin for “equal night.”
