14,000 North Texans Still Without Power

NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A day after severe thunderstorms barreled though the Metroplex early Wednesday morning, there are still 14,000 North Texans without power.

At the power outages’ peak, there more than 209,000 customers off line after the storm.

Oncor’s Connie Piloto said this restoration is very difficult because electrical facilities will have to be restored.

“This will involve removing uprooted trees and debris before repairing the snapped power lines and damaged transformers…setting new utility poles,” she said.

The storm left an extensive amount of damage in multiple counties and Piloto said there’s still a lot of debris on the ground which could create a potentially dangerous situation.

“Please remember to treat a downed power lines as if it’s energized. We know a lot of folks are going to be doing cleanup this weekend. If you see downed power line, stay away and call 911,” she said.

The company is always monitoring the weather and it urges residents to take extra precautions during the storm season.

“They should build an emergency kit with a flash light a power radio. They should also have a plan. If there are folks that are elderly or ill, they can go to a neighbor or family member’s house if an outage is going to be prolonged,” she said.

Piloto said the company does not have an estimated time as when the power will be fully restored.

If an outage needs to be reported, customers need to call (888) 313-4747 or visit Oncor’s website.
