FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – Fort Worth contractor Michael Ysasaga of The Penna Group LLC said he’s received several death threats since word got out that he put in a bid to build President Donald Trump’s signature border wall.
The wall has been a polarizing issue on the national stage ever since Trump first announced plans to build one on the campaign trail.
Ysasaga said due to the current political climate, he knew he would take some heat but never thought it would go this far.
He said the past few weeks have been a trying time for his family and his company.
“We’ve been working with the police who have been incredibly responsive to us. They take these things seriously. They know we’re under threat,” he said.
Ysasaga said when decided to place a bid, some members of his family did not understand.
“I’ve got 57 first cousins. I have had blow back from members of my own family but once I explained to them why I put my hat in this ring they understood,” he said.
Despite the death threats and the initial tension with some family members, Ysasaga said he has a good reason for moving forward with the project if his company is chosen.
“We heard some disturbing proposals while in the field that involved lethal options on the wall…electrified fences…razor wire. We didn’t want anyone to get hurt. We wanted to propose a humane solution,” he said.
The federal government estimates that the project will cost around $21 billion.
