The City of Arlington Extends Smoking Ban

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Arlington City Council voted to extend the city’s smoking ban last night after making a last-minute exception for bingo halls.

The move comes after groups like the Lion’s Club and the Masonic Lodge argued the ban could result in a loss of business and a drop in donations.

They also extended the ban to more public places like bowling alleys, nightclubs and sexually-oriented businesses.

The council’s vote added e-cigarettes to its ordinance and treats it in the same manner as its tobacco counterpart.

A council sub-committee started evaluating various ways Arlington’s smoking ordinance could be expanded in an effort to promote public health back in January.

The council recommended giving businesses sixty days to inform patrons about the ban.

The final vote on new regulations is expected at the council’s next meeting on April 25th.
