Birdville ISD Teacher’s Assistant Accused of Grabbing Student’s Face

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A teacher’s assistant in the Birdville Independent School District is accused of grabbing a Walker Creek Elementary School student’s face during lunch on Tuesday.

The North Richland Hills Police Department became aware of the situation when the 10-year-old’s father, Boyd Clewis, reported the incident.

Clewis showed an officer a picture of his son with what appeared to be a mark on the child’s cheek.

Investigators said the special education teacher’s assistant became angry when things got out of hand in the cafeteria and a counselor was called for backup.

When the child got up from his seat to pick up some food on the floor, the assistant allegedly grabbed the child’s face and told him he was being disrespectful.

Clewis told The Fort Worth Star Telegram that he became incensed when he watched surveillance video of the incident.

“[The video] was exactly how my son described it…Why would she do that to my kid?”

Birdsville ISD spokesman Mark Thomas issued a statement.

“BISD takes these types of allegations seriously, and we are working directly with the family. We will investigate the allegations thoroughly and handle them appropriately.”

The district has not commented on whether the teacher’s assistant is still working with the school. The North Richland Police Department said it is investigating the incident.
