FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Fort Worth Police Department honored three Glenn Crest Middle School students who helped police officers catch a burglary suspect last month.
As the students headed to the auditorium Thursday afternoon, David Willis, Kenyon Maloney and Travontae Barker had no idea that the assembly was for them.
The department presented each student with an award along with a bicycle and helmet.
Police said the heroic event happened March 29th, when two officers were chasing a burglary suspect along Pecos Street.
A police helicopter was called in and multiple units had responded to the scene.
In the midst of the search, the boys alerted the officers about the suspect’s whereabouts and told them he had allegedly offered them $20 each to help him hide.
Shortly after, police found the suspect and arrested him.
During the ceremony, an officer told the crowd that the if it wasn’t for the three young heroes the suspect may have gotten away.
