BALCH SPRINGS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Dallas judge signed an arrest warrant for a former Balch Springs police officer who shot an killed an unarmed black teenager last Saturday.
Roy Oliver, who now faces a murder charge, was fired by the department on Wednesday. The department initially said the car 15-year-old Jordan Edwards was riding in was backing up towards officers when Oliver allegedly fired the fatal shot.
The police chief later publicly said he misspoke on the direction the car was going after surveillance video revealed that the vehicle was driving away from officers.
There’s no word yet if Oliver has been arrested.
Records show that he was briefly suspended in 2013 following a complaint about his conduct while serving as a witness in a drunk-driving case.
Personnel records from the Balch Springs, Texas, Police Department obtained by The Associated Press show former officer Roy Oliver was suspended for 16 hours in December 2013 after the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office filed the complaint.
Oliver was also ordered to take training courses in anger management and courtroom demeanor and testimony.
