IRVING (WBAP/KLIF News) – Family and students gathered outside the library at North Lake College Thursday afternoon for a vigil for the student killed in a murder suicide on campus last week.
Janeera Gonzalez was killed by Adrian Torres, a man her family said was stalking her. Torres committed suicide shortly after the murder.
Sharon Manna was one of Gonzalez’ professors and gave a heartfelt message to the somber crowd.
“Janeera did she does and will always represent the best of North Lake College. She embodies possibility,” she said.
Annabelle Juaraz was her adviser and fought back tears as she told mourners to be strong.
“Janeera’s loss is tremendous and I will forever consider her as part of our amazing college family. Blazers do not forget that we are resilient. We will persist because we are North Lake,” she said.
Gonzalez’ brother thanked the crowd and asked them if they felt safe. He then pledged to honor his sister’s legacy.
“I will never stop until I get justice for my sister,” he said.
Gonzalez’ family will be accepting her diploma at North Lake’s graduation ceremony this weekend.
