Verizon makes donation to Dallas Police Youth Foundation

Officials with Verizon announced a $50,000 donation to the Dallas youth Foundation Monday.

The Dallas Police Department joined Verizon at Rosemont Elementary in Dallas in front of a gymnasium full of students. Dallas Police Chief David Pughes said the donation will benefit the ‘Blue in the School’ program.

“The Officers go into schools and they teach fourth grade students life skills,” Chief Pughes said. “They teach all kind of things like life skills and interaction, how to report tings, and how to be aware of domestic violence and are taught how to come forward.”

Verizon initiated the program with a previous donation and will allow the officers and students of Dallas to continue their efforts with Monday’s contribution.

“For us to be able to continue to support it and allow officers to come into the schools and build relationships with the students is really valuable to the community,” said Julie Smith, Verizon Director of External Affairs.. “To be able to partner to support that work is really an honor for us.”

With the donation, the Dallas Police Department’s Youth Outreach Unit will now be able to reach over 6,000 students with the ‘Blue in the School’ program.
