Army Vet Arrested After Shooting Involving Dallas Uber Driver

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dallas police are still trying to figure out why an Uber driver was shot while dropping off a customer Tuesday morning.

It happened outside the Trail Apartments near White Rock Lake in Lakewood just before 1 a.m.

Dallas police said before the passenger got out of the car, he and the driver started talking about a handgun that he had on him.

The Uber driver asked to see it and when the passenger pulled out the gun to hand it over…shots rang out.

Dallas police said a passerby, identified 33-year-old John Beaty, fired 15 shots into the car after he saw the passenger pull out a gun but he was unsure if there was any threat.

Beaty ended up shooting the driver in the chest area. He was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The passenger was unharmed. Police said Beaty, who is an army veteran, may have been suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.

He’s been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
