DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A sea of Dallas and DART police officers gathered at the Illinois Rail Station Thursday morning to pay honor the DART officer who was killed in the July 7th ambush in downtown last year.
Dallas residents were also on hand to pay tribute to Officer Brent Thompson as National Police Week is commemorated across the city.
Dallas District Attorney Faith Johnson spoke during Thompson’s memorial at DART headquarters.
She she told the somber crowd she appreciates all police officers.
“Each and every day that you get out of that bed, put on your clothes, your uniform, get in your car…and you are doing it all…just for us,” she said.
She said she understands the sacrifices police make and stands behind them.
“I love our DART officers, I love law enforcement. You have probably heard me say in the past…and I say it wherever I go…I support the blue. I support you 110 percent,” she said.
At the end of the ceremony, DART unveiled a street sign named Brent Thompson Way just outside of headquarters.
