U.S. Senator John Cornyn has opened up after withdrawing his name from a list of possible candidates to replace former FBI Director James Comey who was fired by the Trump administration earlier this month.
“I did talk to the President about it, I did talk to the Attorney General about it,” Cornyn said. “But I withdrew my name because I believe I can do more for Texas and the country in my current job.”
Comey said he believes the Whitehouse should be patient in their search for Comey’s replacement.
“I think they should take their time and they should make the right choice,” Cornyn said. “I think there’s a little bit of the pressure taken off of that with the appointment of a special counsel, Director Mueller, to handle the Russian investigation.”
Senator Cornyn said he believes there is a list of qualified candidates to take over as FBI Director.
