Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Replica on Display in Sachse

For those North Texans who want to pay their respects to Vietnam Veterans this Memorial Day, a unique opportunity has come to Sachse.

The Vietnam Combat Veterans Memorial Moving Wall, a half-size replica of the iconic wall in Washington, D.C., offers a way for people all over the country to feel the powerful presence of this unique memorial in their hometown. The replica has traveled the country for 30 years and will be outside of Sachse City Hall through Monday.

“This is a regional opportunity,” said Sachse City Councilman Brett Franks. “This is a rare opportunity for people in the area who may never have the chance to travel to Washington, D.C., to visit the replica of the memorial.”

The Wall has not been in the DFW area since 2009.

“The wall is 126 feet long on each leg and it is monumental,” said Sachse Historical Society member, Jim Mathis. “It’s very large.”

The Vietnam War claimed the lives of 824 North Texans among the 3,417 Texans who gave their lives in the war.  In total, 58,220 U.S. military men and women were killed fighting for freedom.
