Health experts are asking that parents keep their children safe in the Texas heat.
“Kids can run around all day long,” said Emergency Management Physician, Gil Salazar. “Forcing them to take breaks and taking responsibility for their well being is extremely important because they won’t do it.”
Salazar said long exposure to the sun could lead to heat exhaustion for children. He advises staying hydrated and wearing loose fitting clothes that cover the skin when outside in intense heat.
“The amount of water that you can lose through your skin that is exposed to ambient air is tremendous,” Salazar said. “So if you know you are going to spend time outside then covering as much skin as you possibly can with loose clothing is good.”
Temperatures are expected to be in the low 90’s Saturday and heat index values will be even warmer.
