Texas State Representative Issues Apology After DWI Arrest in Dallas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – State Representative Victoria Neave issued a public apology Wednesday afternoon following her arrest on a suspicion of driving while intoxicated charge less than 24 hours earlier.

Dallas police arrested Neave around 11:30 Tuesday night after they received a call about a car that had hit a tree near the Lakewood Country Club.

When officers arrived, they found the freshman lawmaker behind the wheel.

Police said Neave allegedly had slurred speech and refused a field sobriety tests.

She was then arrested for driving while intoxicated. According to the arrest warrant, Neave told officers “I love you and I will fight for you.”

It also said she told them she was invoking her fifth amendment rights.

Neave is coming off of her first legislative session. The Texas Democratic Caucus had named her “Freshman of the Year”.

The Caucus said she bucked a trend as a freshman lawmaker by sponsoring a bill that was passed.

The measure asks for donations from people renewing their drivers license to pay for rape kits.
