Dallas ISD kicks off Summer Meals Program

Dallas Independent School District’s Food and Child Nutrition Service officially kicked off the Summer Meal Program Tuesday, to provide free meals to children and youth 18 years and younger at participating sites throughout Dallas.

More than 200 Dallas ISD schools are offering students free breakfast and lunch over the summer.  All families have to do is find a site, have their child show up and enjoy a healthy meal.

“The kids don’t have to be enrolled in any DISD school,” said Herbert Marcus Elementary School Principal, Holly Wallace. They can come here and get free breakfast and lunch.”

Wallace said without the program a lot of children would miss out on a nutritious meal.

“From June 2, when school lets out until August, they may not be able to get a meal,” Wallace said. “There is such a need in our community for everybody to be fed.”

To see the participating sites, along with dates and times the meals are offered, families may use the district’s School Meal Locator or text FOODTX to 877-877.
