Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF News) – Fort Worth police officer William Martin testified at the hearing dealing with the appeal of his suspension Wednesday. Martin was suspended ten days for his response to a call that led to the arrest of Jacqueline Craig.
Martin said he was called to an argument between neighbors. He told the panel he did not receive the report of a second call about a child being choked, so he sought out the man who made the initial call.
Martin also said ambulance service had been declined.
He says he arrived to a scene where several people were standing outside.
“It was very tense,” he said. “The way they were standing, it seemed like they were agitated.”
Video from Martin’s body camera was played along with video streamed on facebook live. The city’s lawyer asked why Martin confiscated a girl’s cell phone.
Martin said he did not know the phone was streaming video, so he wanted to collect it to protect video of the encounter from being deleted.
Wednesday afternoon, Craig testified before the panel.
“Somebody who took an oath to protect and serve, and you neglected your job,” she said. “That’s not okay.”
The hearing continues Thursday.
