ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WBAP/KLIF News) – A staff member for Texas Representative Roger Williams, who was shot at a congressional baseball practice Wednesday morning, is said to be in stable condition.
Williams confirmed that Zachary Barth was injured during the attack and said he is expected to make a full recovery.
Barth is from the Houston area and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. He works as a legislative correspondent in Williams’ office.
Williams said his ankle was injured during the chaos but other than that he came out unscathed.
Barth was was one of five people injured during a GOP congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia when the suspected gunman, identified as 66-year-old James Hodgkinson of Illinois, opened fire on the players around 8 a.m. ET.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana was also a victim and is reported to be in critical condition after undergoing surgery for his injuries.
Two Capitol police officers and a lobbyist were also shot.
Authorities said one of the officers fatally shot Hodgkinson during the attack.
In the wake of the shooting, Governor Greg Abbott along with numerous Texas lawmakers offered their condolences to the victims and their families.
