Islamic Association of Tarrant County Hosts Open House for Other Faiths

FORT WORTH  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Islamic Association of Tarrant County is hosting an open house for other faiths Friday night to mark Ramadan.

Imam Mujahid Backhash said the event gives people of different religions a chance to learn about each other.

“We condemn, we reject, we do not accept, we cannot condone these kinds of crimes against any human regardless of their faith, race or color because this is not Islam,” he said.

Backash said he wanted to host the open house to show people that violence does not represent his religion.

“Shalom Alaikum. I am wishing peace every day a hundred times to many people to greet them with this greeting as a Muslim. Not to say, I greet with a peace and then I am going to destroy you or kill you. It is not acceptable,” he said.

Backash hopes the open house will help people of different faiths raise a collective voice against violence overseas.

The event, which ends at 9 p.m., is raising money for refugees who have settled in North Texas.
