DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson announced that a Dallas County Grand Jury returned an indictment for Dallas Police Officer 39-year-old Christopher Hess on one count of Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon By a Public Servant related to the January shooting death of young mother.
The punishment for the charge ranges from five years to 99 years in prison.
Hess allegedly shot Dawes through the window of a car she allegedly stole. Police say Dawes backed into their patrol car. Reverend Jeff Hood with Next Generation Action Network says Police video tells a different story.
“We demanded the tapes because we knew the tapes told something that the Dallas Police Department refused to divulge,” Hood said.
Witnesses say they don’t believe the Officers were in danger.
“We will seek justice on behalf of Ms. Dawes and her two young children, who must now grow up without their mother,” said DA Johnson of the indictment. “I want to thank the Grand Jury for their time.”
Officer Hess is a 10 year veteran of the Department and is assigned to the Central Patrol Division. Police say he will be placed on administrative leave pending an administrative investigation by the Internal Affairs Division.
