TERRELL (WBAP/KLIF News) – Authorities said a man is in police custody after a standoff with a SWAT team outside a Terrell home late on Wednesday.
It started with a high-speed police chase around 11 a.m. on State Highway 205 after a Terrell police officer attempted to pull a driver over and arrest him.
Investigators said the driver, identified as 24-year-old Dylan Canady, was wanted on a parole violation and appeared to be armed.
After a brief chase, police said Canady exited his car and ran into a house SH 205 and County Road 250 and refused to come out.
Authorities from several agencies including the Terrell Police Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Residents inside the home, including children, were evacuated.
According to InForney.com, Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom said after more than an hour, officers eventually entered the house with a police K9.
He said Canady, who was found hiding under some clothes in a laundry room, was bitten by the K9 and tazed before he was taken into custody.
Other people at the home were also arrested for unrelated warrants.
