Paramedic Shot in Dallas Thankful for Community Support

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Paramedic William An was shot while responding to a shooting call in May. He was rescued by Dallas Police and rushed to Baylor University Medical Center of Dallas in a squad car.

An received support from across the country in following weeks. Doctors and nurses said it was a miracle that he was still alive. A month after the shooting An was released from the hospital.

It’s been two months since An was shot and the support continues. Law enforcement continues to visit An at home and fundraisers are still being planned. An says he is thankful to everyone who has come to his aid since the shooting. He says he is especially thankful to Dallas Police for their quick response.

“In just ten minutes we made it to the patient, we called the Code Blue, the cops showed up and go me to Baylor Hospital,” said An. “And I heard the way they sped off was just inhuman.”

An said he thinks a lot about the first responders that helped him the day he was shot, and hold a special place in his heart for his riding partner, Casey.

“He’s got to carry a burden that I don’t,” said An. “Because he saw all this happening from outside and I don’t really remember much about what happened.”

The paramedic is also thankful for the brave response of staff at Baylor Hospital.

“These are doctors and nurses in the ER that I’ve met many times before as a paramedic delivering patients,” said An. “The fact that they saw me and could put their emotions aside is in their words, a miracle that I’m in the condition that I am now.”

An says while he is thankful for his progress he still has a long road to recovery.
