Austin (WBAP/KLIF News) – The acting director of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has resigned. Ed Swedberg had been named director in May.
Swedberg took the job as part of an effort to reform the agency earlier this year. TABC drew scrutiny from the Texas Legislature for its spending and travel.
The Texas House Committee on General Investigating and Ethics questioned several executives in April for the agency’s out-of-state travel. A flyer produced by an employee drew national attention because it depicts TABC members flying to a conference while drinking beer.
In his resignation, Swedberg wrote his conscience would not let him terminate the employee who designed the flyer.
TABC Chairman Kevin Lilly says the agency is “100 percent” focused on finding its next executive director. The agency will meet Tuesday to consider finalists.
