Dallas County Prosecutor Used Facebook Friendship in Attempt to Get Out of DWI Charge

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office has suspended assistant district attorney Leah Lucius without pay after she was arrested on suspicion of drunken-driving charge early Saturday morning.

According  to an arrest warrant affidavit, Lucius allegedly crashed into a tree and fence near the 1600 block of Breezewood Drive.

The responding officers said they smelled of alcohol on Lucius’ breath, that she was disoriented and had to lean on her car to keep her balance.

The affidavit also states that Lucius, with slurred speech, told officers that a driver came into her lane, which caused her to lose control of her car. Witnesses told police her car went airborne before it hit the tree.

Officers said Lucius admitted to having a couple glasses of wine over a five-hour period. According to the affidavit, she asked Officer Bobby Watkins, “Can you give me a break, we’re Facebook friends.”

Watkins then replied that the encounter was being videotaped and there was nothing he could do.

After allegedly refusing to perform a number of field sobriety tests, Lucius was arrested and taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital where her blood was drawn.

Police said Lucius was eventually discharged from the hospital and ordered to surrender to authorities.

Dallas County District Attorney spokesperson Elizabeth Saab issued a statement about the arrest.

“We are aware of the arrest that occurred over the weekend. Ms. Lucius has been suspended without pay pending the results of the investigation. We will make no further comment at this time.”

Saab said that Lucius turned herself into the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department Tuesday morning.

Lucius has been working with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office since July of 2015.
