Dallas County Health and Human Services Urge Parents to Get Their Kids Vaccinated Before School Starts

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County Health and Human Services said now is the time to get your children’s required vaccinations, before lines get long.

In the past, parents have been known to be in lines for as long as four hours when it gets to within two weeks prior to the start of school.

“We’re saying start now, we know that a lot of parents are focusing on the summer time but we see large lines, extremely long lines, in terms of back to school immunizations,” Zachary Thompson, Dallas County Health Director said.

The vaccinations will cost $10 on the first visit and $5 for returning patients. There are also options available for low income families as well.

Dallas County Health is asking its parents to bring their children’s shot records along with them when going to get their vaccinations. Children who have not received all of their shots will not be allowed to return to school, until those vaccinations are up to date.

“We want our children to be in school on the first day of school, not trying to get shots on the first day at a clinic,” Thompson said.

College students are also able to get the state required meningitis vaccine at Dallas County Health and Human Service Clinics. Without the vaccination, they too will not be allowed to attend college until those requirements have been satisfied.
