DALLAS, (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Independent School District is making history this week. Announcing on Tuesday, July 11th, that they are now accepting nominations for their first ever Athletic Hall of Fame. Nominations will remain open until September 30th.
“We’re real excited about the opportunity to be able to honor and recognize all of the accomplishment of our former athletes, coaches, and contributors to Dallas ISD Athletics,” Gil Garza, Dallas ISD Athletics Director said.
Individuals can be nominated into one of three categories, Past Dallas ISD student athlete, Former Dallas ISD coach, or Contributor. They can still be actively participating in their respective sports, or retired but they must be a former participant of Dallas ISD.
An individual can be nominated even if they hadn’t played a sport, under the Contributor category. Garza says that a contributor consist of a person who has made contributions to Dallas ISD athletics in some capacity other than a player or a coach. This includes individuals who went on to pursue careers in other areas like Sports Media, Sports Medicine, Sports Adminstration, Sports Officiating, or just a supporter of Dallas ISD Athletics in general.
“We are looking to nominate roughly eight to ten every year. We don’t want it to be too long yet not too short,” said Garza
He says that the finalist for the first 2018 Hall of Fame Class will be announced by the end of the this year.
The official Hall of Fame plaques will be made available to be viewed by the public immediately after the induction ceremony which will be held at the Ellis Davis Field House in May 2018.
