FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – A 9-month-old baby was found dead at a Fort Worth home Monday night.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, an Officer was dispatched to 600 block Woodpecker Lane on an Unconscious Person. Crimes Against Children Unit Detectives found in their investigation that the infant died from injuries while sleeping in a car seat inside his caretaker’s home.
Investigators say it appears the bottom strap was not properly connected and the child slid down the seat. The infant’s neck was caught between the car seat buckle that was fastened. The baby is believed to have suffocated by means of the buckle and strap.
“The child was last seen alive two hours prior to the child being found deceased,” said Officer Bradley Perez.
The caretaker was interviewed by detectives along with several children inside the home. The caretaker was watching 10-11 children at the time of the incident. It’s unknown if the baby was at an in-home daycare or with a babysitter.
“We don’t know what the situation was at this point but CPS Licensing is looking into that,” said Marissa Gonzalez with Child Protective services.
Police say they don’t believe foul play was involved and are reminding parents to always strap children in their car seats and always watch them closely.
