DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) — Your next Walmart order may be delivered by Uber.
Eight Dallas area Walmart stores are partnering with Uber in an effort to combat the juggernaut of retail delivery that is Amazon and grocery stores that offer Instacart services.
There is a flat charge of $9.95. Same day deliveries must be ordered online by 1 p.m. According to the Dallas Morning News customers can choose a one-hour delivery time slot.
Uber began making Walmart deliveries last year in Phoenix. The service begins today in Dallas as well as in Orlando and Tampa, Florida.
Discount grocery rival Aldi announced last week that it is making online ordering available. Dallas-Ft. Worth is the largest Walmart market in the country offering online ordering with customer curbside pick-up at 53 locations.
The new delivery service is still being called a test and, for now, is available only to Walmart customers in consecutively numbered zip codes 75201 through 75208.
