Dallas Rescue Task Force Sent to South Texas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas Fire and Rescue Task Force has been sent to South Texas by the state in anticipation of Hurricane Harvey hitting the Texas Coast.

70 members of Task Team 2 are headed to San Antonio to assist with any necessary water rescues.

“From there they will be given various assignments and be dispersed out in several various locations,” said Firefighter Jason Evans.

The firefighters who made the trip volunteered to help on their own as part of the task force. The team will stay to help as long as they’re needed.

Weather experts say Harvey could drop 24 inches of rain on the middle and upper Texas coast due to its slow forward speed of just 10 mph. Storm surge at landfall could be in excess of 20 feet, depending on astronomical tides. Hurricane models indicate Harvey could stall near Victoria and turn east/northeast back to sea and re-intensify, threatening Galveston and Beaumont/Port Arthur early next week.
