DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Dr. Pepper ballpark in Frisco will get a name change.

The home of the Texas Rangers AA affiliate, the RoughRiders, has a contract about to expire with Plano-based Dr Pepper-Snapple Group. The Dallas Morning News reports the company has acknowledged that a name change for the facility is imminent but says they’re not going away completely.

A written statement released by the company Tuesday confirmed that the stadium will get a new name not related to its products but added Dr Pepper will continue to have a strong presence and will continue to host employee outings and hold meetings at the park. The company bought naming rights to the ballpark in 2002 and opened the following season as Dr Pepper/7 Up Ballpark but shortened its name three years later.

The RoughRiders are looking for a new naming sponsor and should have no problem finding one. The Frisco team is one of the leading minor league professional baseball teams in the country, attracting more than half a million fans every season.
