Fort Worth Shelters Open to House Harvey Evacuees

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – Hurricane Harvey evacuees are expected to begin arriving in Fort Worth.

Firefighter Kyle Clay said the city was asked by the state to prepare shelters with basic necessities for people coming to stay.

“Each person is going to receive a pillow, blankets, sheets, and a cot,” said Clay. “And then we’ve got some comfort care stuff like tooth paste, tooth brushes, and combs.”

Clay said the city is set up to host more that 1,000 evacuees. People will be taken by bus to the Wilkerson-Grienes Athletic Center and routed from there to other shelters if needed.

The Fort Worth City Council will consider adopting a disaster declaration based on the number of people relocating to the city.
