It’s Now Illegal To Text and Drive in Texas

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Texting and driving in Texas could now cost you.  Starting today, it’s illegal to text and drive.  If you’re caught, a first offense will set you back up to $99 and and each repeat offense will cost $200.  You can still use your phone to talk hands-free and you can also play music, use your GPS and call 9-1-1. It’s also still legal to text if your stopped at a red light. The law is just one of 673 new laws that went into effect September 1st.  iI you cause a serious injury or death while texting and driving, you could face a fine up to $4000 and be sentenced to up to a year in jail.
