DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The City of Dallas is housing just under 3,000 Hurricane Harvey evacuees.
Late Monday morning, the city said that its four shelters had been consolidated to two. More than 240 evacuees staying at Walnut Hill Rec-center were moved to the Mega Shelter at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in downtown. The convention center is now the temporary home to over 2,800 people. The Mega Shelter has the capability of holding up to 5,000 evacuees.
Evacuees from Tommie Allen Rec-Center are now at Samuell Grand. That rec-center is holding just shy of 150 people. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings has assured evacuees that the city is doing everything it can to assist.
