DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Southern Dallas donation drop-off location for victims of Hurricane Harvey is closed.
The Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center is no longer accepting donations for Hurricane Harvey evacuees. Volunteers say the site received an overwhelming response from the public and is currently working to sort donated items.
The outpouring of donations to help those in need over the weekend was incredible, said District 3 Councilmember Casey Thomas. Im thrilled that southern Dallas rose to the occasion to help others.
In the meantime, officials say the greatest need is for monetary donations in lieu of physical donations. People who would like to help are encouraged to donate to the Mayors Disaster Relief Fund. Donations will provide grants to individuals and families for basic housing assistance and necessities.
