Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – The onslaught of Hurricane Harvey disrupted air travel throughout a large part of the United States, and cost the airlines millions of dollars. Dallas based Southwest Airlines says it had to cancel 2,800 flights, at a cost of $60 million. United Airlines, which has a major hub at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport, canceled 7,400 flights. United says it lost $400 million. Southwest says its operations should be back to normal sometime today, however that seems likely to change during the weekend. The company notes it has a major hub at the airport in Fort Lauderdale, and Hurricane Irma seems to be heading that way. No estimate yet on a return to normal operations for United.
