UT Austin Tightens Automatic Admission Rules

Austin (WBAP/KLIF) –  It’s going to get a lot harder for high school students to gain automatic admission to the University of Texas at Austin.  Students who want to enroll in the summer or fall of 2019 under the state’s automatic admission law will now have to rank in the top 6 percent of their high school class.  Currently, automatic admission is granted to those who rank in the top 7 percent.

In a news release, the university said the change is due to the continued growth in the number of Texas high school graduates and the steep increase in UT-Austin applications.  The school received more than 51,000 applications in 2017, compared to the 38,000 it received in 2013. Students who want to receive automatic admission to the state’s other public universities need to rank in the top 10 percent of their class.
