Infotainment Systems Increase Chance of Accidents

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News)– Infotainment systems, the consoles that provide radio, navigation and text message capability in your new car, are a real safety hazard for drivers according to AAA.

A recent study from the University of Utah assessed 30 different vehicle infotainment systems and the levels of attention needed from the driver. The study reported that over 75 percent of those systems required high or extremely high levels of attention.

Daniel Armbruster with AAA believes that automakers need to simplify designs to improve safety.

“Automakers have added too many functions unrelated to the core focus of driving such as sending text messages, checking social media and even surfing the web.”

According to AAA, removing eyes from the road for just two seconds doubles the risk for a crash.
