DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) Lubbock – The Texas Tech University police officer shot and killed by a 19-year-old freshman has been identified at 48-year-old Floyd East Jr.
East had been with the school police department since December of 2014.
The officer was gun down at the campus police headquarters just before eight o’clock Monday evening by 19-year-old Hollis Daniels.
Earlier monday, campus police performed a welfare check and when they entered the students room, they found drugs and drug related paraphernalia.
Daniels, a Freshman from Seguin, was then taken to campus police headquarters where he allegedly pulled a gun and shot the officer in the head before taking off.
The campus had to be put on lockdown as authorities and a SWAT team searched for the suspect.
University spokesman, Chris Cook says after about an hour Daniels was located near the Lubbock coliseum across from the football stadium. He was taken into custody without incident.
