Fort Bragg, N.C. (WBAP/KLIF) – U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl will be sentenced today for deserting his post in Afghanistan eight years ago. Bergdahl walked away from his assignment in June, 2009. He was returned to U.S. custody in a 2014 prisoner exchange with the Tabliban. He remains on active duty, stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Bergdahl could be sentenced to life in prison, however Army prosecutors have asked Judge Jeffery Nance to sentence him to 14 years. Judge Nance began his deliberations Thursday, and has said he will almost certainly impose sentence on Bergdahl today.
